NCAA football bowl picks results

by Rusty

So, David was right that he won, though Reggie made a good run at him. My result is middling as usual. This format doesn’t work nearly as well for a one-off contest as it does for a multi-week contest. I’ll integrate the bowls into the main contest next year.

Rank Player Score
1st David 20
2nd Reggie 19
3rd Chuck 16
  Rusty 16
5th Brian 15
  Scott 15
7th Steve 14

Anybody see the Orange Bowl? Oklahoma was so pathetic it’s barely worth mentioning for any other reason than I’m starting to be sold on the idea of an eight-team playoff, which I was against for a long time. The BCS done be broken. In fairness, any system that’s not a playoff would encounter these sorts of problems. I just can’t help but think that Auburn would have put up a better fight.

NCAA football bowl picks

by Rusty

I caught a cold earlier this week, and it’s about to knock me out. Creativity has been down the past few days as a result. No matter, though, because that makes this a good day for me to exert the grunt work necessary to throw together my NCAA football bowl picks contest. This is brand new and open to anyone who’d like to participate. It works just like the regular season contest did, except it’s a one-shot deal. We’re playing purely for pride unless someone wants to donate a prize because I’m a poor bastard with nothing material to offer. Click the jump for details.

NCAA football picks: final results

by Rusty

So, Jen wins. Even after leaving a lude, assumedly drunken comment here last night, I still have to give her credit for playing well. I’ve made my share of lude drunken comments — here, on her site, and in many other places — so I can’t get too miffed about it.

If ya’ll are interested in chipping in for a prize for her, I will as well. I’m poor, so I can’t do much on my own. Too bad we didn’t organize that beforehand. You can leave ideas in the comments section or email them to me.

Also, thanks to everyone who played. This wouldn’t have been nearly as much fun with less people. Be on the lookout for a bowls contest once they’re all scheduled. It’ll be open to anyone regardless of whether you participated in this round of picks. Maybe we’ll agree on a prize beforehand for that one.

NCAA football picks: Round 14

by Rusty

I reckon this is our final round unless I’ve somehow forgotten about a conference championship game to be played next week. Last Chance City for David and Reggie to catch up with Jen, who has a three-point lead. It’s not at all impossible. Let me know what ya’ll would want to do in the event of a tie. Could there be a bet or two for Tennessee against Auburn other than me after all?

NCAA football picks: Round 13

by Rusty

And then there were three. I don’t think it’s impossible for Steve to sneak back into this, but it appears we’re down to a race between Jen, David and Reggie for the… what are we going to name the trophy? How about the Brickliver Cup, in honor of both the mascot from my old site and my inevitable descent into full-blown alcoholism? And what about prizes? We never really agreed on anything, but if you have suggestions I’d love to hear them. This contest ends with the conference championship games in early December, by the way. I’ll do a separate contest for the bowls.

NCAA football picks: Round 12

by Rusty

Steve wins despite missing the Wednesday deadline (and one point), Reggie bombs due to missing two deadlines, and now we’ve got a tight contest among the top four. Fellas, you can’t let a woman win this thing. That would be too much for me to bear right now, and it’s out of my hands. There’s plenty of room for upsets, so one of you do me a favor and kick some ass.

NCAA football picks: Round 11

by Rusty

My apologies for the unannounced death of Yaaarr, and the havoc that brings to our NCAA picks contest. Luckily, only David and I had submitted our picks, and I have email records of those two. I’ll update this post with last week’s results when I get the time to format them, but I wanted to go ahead and get the odds back up so people would have time to place bets.

UPDATE: I added last week’s full results in, added the usual instructions and deadline information, and uploaded the full spreadsheet.
