I don’t have time for a full blog post, so here’s a discussion topic:
How accurate or inaccurate would you say this statement is, and why?
The Christian lobby in the United State bears a strong resemblance to the Sunni Muslims during Saddam Hussein’s regime, in that a vocal minority uses intimidation tactics to silence a majority that doesn’t share its goals.

Pretty damn accurate, but you knew my opinion already. I’ve got a blog post on this very subject brewing myself, whenever I have time to bring it to fruition…
Well, I’m not sure the tactics are quite the same. But I do believe the U.S. is headed that way at the moment. Recent incidents directed against Muslims and Hispanics should be of a great deal of concern to anyone who doesn’t want to see a theocratic regime.
Well, somewhat, but to be perfectly honest we don’t yet have Christian Rapid Reponse Squads roaming the nation, picking up dissenters, political opponents for torture and reeducation. The Christians have not yet utilized targetted killings to achieve their opponents’ silence. This, however, does not rule out their future existence. Considering what is being done to some Muslims and so designated ‘enemy combatants’ is just a taste of what could happen.
The fact is, there is a subset of self-identified “Christians” who would gladly bow to a powerful (again self-identified) Christian leader who promised a “Kingdom of Heaven” and used murder, torture, and kidnapping to achieve his ends. Said flock of willing Christians will probably not fully understand the individual roles that they are playing, but will follow out of religious obligation and faith regardless. Much like Argentina during the dirty war when Anti-Communist Attack Squads roamed with unofficial status and murdered, kidnapped and ransacked with impunity; what will happen here is “Christian” militas like the Minutemen, Christian Identity groups and various ad hoc organizations will be given express licenese to act as their superiors in official government capacities order them to. Unlike the Nazi Regime, these groups will not have official status and may even be condemned by the same leaders who control them, but police will know better than to fight them and ordinary citizens will have no where to turn. If we combine that with a failure of the judicial system to mete out justice in any meaningful way then we begin a failure of civic government, one organ at a time.
i’m not sure they’re such a minority???
I think the crazy “kill the infidel” Christians are a minority. I often feel that if one claims to be a Christian many members of the leftist persuasion attach a label automatically. I have found that most Christians are fairly rational people. Besides…it doesn’t take much intelligance to figure out that kidnapping, murder and ransacking don’t really follow the Christian belief system…
WWJD? Get an AK and mow ‘em down…
Nope not seeing it.
I think that Aaron Sorkin said it best when he wrote in a West Wing script the week after 9/11
Islam : Islamic Terrorism
::
Christianity : KKK
What I find most interesting is this little tidbit:
Saladin was a Kurd born in Tikrit. Same as Saddam.
Granted he and Richard are both far cries, in fact, maybe even diametric opposites of Bush and Hussein (exception: massacre at Acre) in terms of leadership qualities and basic morals and ethics, but the parallels are interesting, nonetheless.
Saladin was a Kurd born in Tikrit. Same as Saddam.
Except that Saddam was a Sunni Arab born in Tikrit, not a Kurd.
I should’ve been more clear.
sounds pretty spot on to me.
