I think the phony shops painted on the walls and windows in the Lindbergh plaza (just outside the MARTA station) are tacky. As if they’re fooling anyone given the total lack of foot traffic in that area. They make me think of that guy who got arrested a few weeks ago for driving in the HOV lane with a stuffed dummy in the passenger seat.
Also, on Peachtree near the GDGF’s place (and Rhodes Hall) there’s a window that’s been grafted with a picture of the Shell station across the street from it. WTF is that about? That print couldn’t have been cheap at that size. Wouldn’t that money have been better spent paying for advertisements to rent the property out?
Maybe Atlanta’s slogan should be “Painting neighbors where none would care to reside.”

That Shell station picture is really weird. My thought was that it was some kind of art project that a SCAD student did or something.
I’m surprised that that building is still around, actually. It’s such poor use of prime Midtown property. I guess it gives local homeless people a place to sleep at night, though.
Ok, I know the Shell Station that you’re speaking of.. but I can’t think of the building across from it. I thought it was Rhodes Hall, but no way would they have a window painted as a Shell Station. I’m gonna have to do some investigation this weekend..
It’s a dumpy white building across the street from Rhodes Hall. Catty-corner to the Shell Station
The white building next to Rhodes Hall was originally a part of a commerical development in the early or middle part of the 20th century by the Rhodes family, that had a number of shops in it - including a Rhodes furniture store (shocking, I know). There were originally stores developed on both sides of Rhodes Hall - the northern wing was destroyed due development on that lot.
just in case ya’ll were wondering.
Okay… how do you know that? Reveal your sources!
I’ll have to disagree with Joseph G — I don’t think that is good property, or else it would be leased by now. For a very long period of time they had a painting of that very property extolling the virtues of leasing it. But who wants to lease a building that is under an interstate on-ramp? Better to convert it to condos, as there is some sucker who will by residential property almost anywhere if the price is right.
